Our riding brothers and sisters across the nation are counting on us to do what they cannot.

On June 3rd, the Democratic Party in New Jersey will hold a primary election to determine who will be the Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. We have 2 candidates running for this office, Frank Lautenberg as the incumbent and Rob Andrews. These 2 candidates have completely opposite views when it comes to issues of motorcycle rights. Let's examine their positions:

So what has Lautenberg done for motorcyclists in New Jersey and the nation?
Member of good old boy club, Lautenberg 1. Lautenberg authored a 2005 amendment to the highway bill (PL 109-59) that would have held captive some of a state's highway money if they did not have a mandatory helmet law. This would have effectively reinstated the federal blackmail of the states forcing them to enact mandatory helmet laws. We were fortunate that this was soundly defeated, but only after the motorcycle rights organizations across the nation sprang into action. The good news for bikers is that all 3 presidential candidates voted against this Lautenberg amendment.

2. Lautenberg authored an amendment in the mid nineties some time that would have denied ALL federal benefits to someone who was injured in a motorcycle accident and not wearing a helmet. Both of those bills were defeated but its the idea that he would think that way that's most troublesome.

Helmet for all vehicles3. Lautenberg, as Chairman of the Transportation Committee, has done nothing to increase penalties for right of way violations despite the fact that most auto-motorcycle accidents are the auto drivers fault

4. Lautenberg, as Chairman of the Transportation Committee, has done nothing to mandate safer guard rails that currently act as giant cookie cutters to any biker that contacts them. As Chairman of the Transportation Committee, Lautenberg is in the position where he can do the most damage.

5. Lautenberg has never met with ABATE of the Garden State despite repeated attempts by us. He did schedule a meeting once and then sent an office aide in his place.

q
What will Andrews do for motorcyclists in New Jersey and across the nation?
Rob Andrews1. As a member of Congress Andrews worked with ABATE to remove a loophole in the HIPAA bill that, under certain conditions, would allow insurance companies to deny insurance coverage to motorcyclists.

2. Andrews is an advocate of a rider's choice to wear a helmet. Andrews opposes to any federal mandate that would take away the ability of a rider to make this crucial and personal decision.

3. Andrews supports and encourages our government leaders to provide additional programs dedicated to motorcycle awareness and training for drivers.

Here in Rob Andrew's own words:
freedom machineMotorcycling is synonymous with freedom, and I fully support the effort to preserve the rights of the motorcycle community by opposing unnecessary federal laws that seek to constrain the liberty of riders. Motorcycling remains an important part of our culture. Its emphasis on personal liberty, freedom and choice are uniquely American. I am remain dedicated to working with the members of its community to preserve this role and hope to see you all in the years ahead.

Who would you rather have in the Senate?
American freedomThis primary election provides us with a very unique opportunity for the 150,000 registered motorcyclists throughout New Jersey, their friends, and families to make their voices heard and send to the Senate a biker-friendly candidate who will champion our cause. Other bikers across the nation cannot vote in this primary, we can. It is our responsibility to our brothers and sisters across the state and this great nation to register and vote in this most important primary. Motorcycling is representativeof the freedoms that our founding fathers fought so hard to give us. It is our patriotic duty to defend these freedoms against those who would deny them to us.

To our brothers and sisters across the nation, you can help by:
1. Helping Rob Andrews campaign
2. If you have any friends or relatives in NJ, urge them to go out and vote in the primary.

Primary elections have historically had very low turnouts. With over 150,000 registered motorcyclists in the state, add their friends, neighbors, and families, we have the possibility of taking down a powerful senator through voting - WOW!!!

If you are a declared Democrat or have never declared, you can simply walk into the polling place and vote in the June 3 primary. If you cannot make it to vote on Tuesday June 3, you can vote by mail. Deadline is May 27.

Do not vote Democratic, do not vote Republican, vote BIKER!
